Hayden Wilde

( This is not my writing it is from the Olympic site, but the question are mine )

New Zealand's Hayden Wilde (R) in action during the race. Photo: ReutersHayden Wilde, the Whakatane athlete who now calls Tauranga home, has won New Zealand's first medal of Tokyo 2020, winning bronze in the Men's triathlon.

A stunning run leg from the 23-year-old saw him continue New Zealand's fine tradition in the sport, becoming the third New Zealander to win an Olympic medal behind Hamish Carter (gold in Athens) and Bevan Docherty (silver in Athens, bronze in Beijing).

After finding himself in the third group in the bike and in a potentially vulnerable position, Wilde's group caught the lead bunch on lap five of the eight-lap bike and he was never outside the lead group in the run that was whittled to three by the final of four laps.

For all money it appeared the medals were decided; it would just be a matter of how Wilde, Great Britain's Alex Yee and Norway's Kristian Blummenfelt would divvy them up.

What’s his full name:

Where in New Zealand is he from:

Facts about Matariki

Let's celebrate Matariki | National Library of New Zealand

Did you know that Matariki is a Maori new year, yea you should know by now. Most people think that Matariki is a constellation but Matariki is a cluster and Matariki is one of the star clusters near earth. Believe it or not but there's actually 500 stars but 6 or 7 are visible without the telescope. Next year on the 24th of June will be the first Matariki public holiday. Matariki is traditionally a time to get together to share kai harvested from past seasons. Cook a mid-winter feast for friends and whānau using traditional Māori vegetables such as kumara, kamo kamo, taro, puha and uwhi. There are many other delicious foods you could cook as well.

Learning how to snorkel the the G.I pools

On a sunny day we walked to the G.I (Glen Innes) pools, if you're wondering how far it is from Glen Innes School to G.I pools it is 1.2km (Kilometers). We walked all the way from GI to the pools with excitement but tired at the same time. When we got there we gave a pat on our backs that we made it without injury. Room 11 went inside the pool first while room 10 went to discover the stream. Learning how to snorkel was kind of challenging but fun at the same time. After snorkeling we swapped over with room 10 and we also had a turn to discover the stream. We saw a lot of baby fishes that actually looked like larvae but a lot smaller. The girls found 11 dead eels, can you believe that. After looking at the stream we went back and we ate lunch before we went back to school

The Amazing Buddhist Temple

 The Buddhist Temple

Introduction

Have you been to the Buddhist temple, well I have and i’ll be telling you what it's like. The Buddhist temple is a place where people visit and know all about their religion. Going to the Temple isn’t gonna change your religion it’s gonna teach you about good things in life like the 3 goods and the 4 givings.

Body ( What we did)

First we hopped in the bus and we were on our way to the Buddhist temple. We were so excited but some of us were terrified. It was a long adventure but we managed to get there in time. If you're wondering where the Buddhist temple is in Flat bush where Manukau is. When we hopped off we felt even more excited because we were gonna experience what the Buddhist temple’s like.

Next we followed our leader to the entrance and we had to stay in our lines. There was a lady there and she welcomed us, she also taught us how to greet people in their language.

Then we went inside and we saw a statue of Buddha. I was in group one and we first went into this place where we watched a movie about Buddha. If you want to know what Buddha was like he was a humble man helping kids but those people had to respect Buddha.

After watching we went to the courtyard and it looked beautiful. Our 2nd activity was a lady teaching us the meaning of the courtyard. It was a charming decoration and it was a chinese pattern. Then we went to another lady and we had to grab this wooden thing and tipped it slowly on the left shoulder and say I vow to do good deeds and do the same thing to the right shoulder and the back but say I vow to say good words and think good thoughts. After we went to another activity and it was tracing over the lines and we didn’t use a pen we used a traditional pen. The finished product looked so fabulous and we could also take it home.

Finally they gave us congee and inside was rice and vegetable, we also had water in a little container. The congee made us fool but some people went for 2nd’s or they even had 6 bowls of congee. When we finished our yummy food we went inside this place that looked so nice. They also had our paper we wrote that we vow (promise) to do something throughout our lives. After we settled down, there were four policies in front of us. They picked 5 lucky people to act out a scenario. While they were practicing their act we got to ask some questions till they came back. When they came back the scenario was about if you’ll pick the evil side or the good side. He first picked temptation but for the 2nd answer he picked conscience. Lastly they said we could ask more questions and I learnt that the police's favorite snack is a donut. Some were old, some were young but they loved their job. Lastly we went back to the entrance and we said bye then hopped in the bus, we came a bit late like around 3.00pm but it’s better late than never.

Conclusion (Feelings)

I felt tired but i'm glad that I had fun and learned a few things. I’d love to go to the Buddhist temple again with the school.

Mothers' Day

Mothers' Day
First Paragraph : On the 9th of May is mothers day and yes as you can see it’s a day for Mothers/mums. Mothers day is a day where mums are recognized and receive presents from family and friends. Every mother’s day there are approximately 152 million cards sent, can you believe that. Most people wake up and make their mums breakfast then surprise them with flowers and chocolates, just like valentines but a lot different. Most families gather in one place and recognize all the hard working mothers. They give them expensive gifts for all the things they have done throughout the year.

Second Paragraph: On Saturday my mum was invited to a dinner in the city and it was an early mothers day gift. First she woke up and made breakfast then we all cleaned up while my sister was doing the washing. After cleaning she was getting ready for her dinner at 8:00. When she left we decided to play games and get ready for training the next day. When she came back she told us that she had fun and finally eaten sweets. She went to sleep because she was so tired and she needed to sleep. The next morning she made us breakfast because we had training and for breakfast we had porridge with frozen berries. We got ready and we were going to our training at the Auckland Grammar basketball court. It was our first training and we were so excited. The manager gave out some cupcakes and coffee to all the mothers and i’m pretty sure they enjoyed it. After training we went to countdown to buy some snacks and fruits because we were so hungry. My brother also bought my mum some chocolate and cake for her mother’s day gift. We went back home and I had to rest my leg because I kept falling. Then I went to bath and came to rest and I had to look for my uniform after. My dad cooked my mum’s favorite thing to eat. We were all tired so we went to sleep for school tomorrow. We had a fun mothers day and I hope my mum had a good mothers day.

Sailing

Today room 11 went sailing in the Akarana RAYC (Royal Akarana Yacht Club). So first of all we got out of the bus and there was a teacher named Kelly and Kim, they were the ones that leaded us to the place where they were gonna welcome us. They first welcomed us and told us what we were gonna do after. They told us we don't have to panic because there's adults everywhere and they'll keep an eye on us but we were still scared. After welcoming us we had lunch because you can never do anything without having a snack. We were so excited that we didn't want to eat something but I told them to have something. After having a snack we got into a gear, so first of all we grabbed one of each. There were wetsuit, life jacket, helmet because of the boom and aqua shoes or your shoes you came with. We went to get changed and there bathrooms looked so fancy inside. Once we were done one of the instructors told us to split into 3 groups cause there were 3 fun activities. He teached us how to use the rudder and what were the things that were on the boat. We were first with the Rebecca, she first teached us how to put up the sail and the ropes. It was hard because the sail was long and it kept hitting us but we managed to put it up with the ropes. After putting it up we went back inside and she was teaching us how to tie a knot in with a rope. We first did the figure 8 and it was pretty hard but when she said make a loop strangle the alien then punch it in the face I found it a bit more easy. After we did challenges and the challenge was to try make a figure 8 behind you back, first one finished wins. It was kind of easy but most of ours were to strangled, and yes you can tell if its too strangled or a figure 8  Our other one was a Sheet bend and I forgot how to do but it was kind of like how you tie your shoelaces. After we went on the small boats and they were called the optimist. There not that small but maybe the size of a normal desk. I went with my friend Andy, he was so excited that he was acting like Maui. It was so funny because he was standing and he tried to flip the but because he wanted to swim so bad. There were 2 pink buoy's in the water and we sailed back and forth. We switched a few times because there we to many of us and they weren't equal. It was so fun because we went on a boat, kind of like a speed boat but a bit bigger. It was so fun that I wanted to stay on. After learning how to sail we played a game and we had to collect the tennis balls floating in the sea. It was so funny cause I tried to reach out for the tennis ball and I fell off the boat, I was so cool that I wanted to stay in but one of the instructors helped me out. After sailing we went on a bigger boat and it was called the Quest. It was 4 per boat including a instructor. The instructor we had was named Lewis and he was one of the best instructors. When we were in Andy was holding onto the boat and leaving his legs out. He was scared that there might be a shark coming from the back and was gonna bite his legs. After him saying that we started to talk about sharks that he straight away put his legs in. We saw the other Quest boat and one of them jumped off to come into our boat but the boat was moving a little fast so we left him then Andy jumped in to save him but the boat couldn't stop because it was a bit windy. We left them and we were a bit far that neither of us wanted to go save them. We turned back and got them so they jumped in and they were so tired because they had to move their arms around to. We turned back but before that he lets us have a bit of a swim then turned back to the ppntume. We hoped off and we were gonna jump of and have another free time with the class but we didn't have that much time. We all changed filled in these sheets then went back to school. It was one of the best days in my life that sailing became a hobby.

What I have been learning this year (2021)

As we all know its 2021, here's some interesting things I have been learning. One of the interesting things I have been learning about is why they have lines on pathways and concrete. There's lines is because the soil can grow and the water level, if it cracks it wouldn't just crack it'll make funny cracks and they use a machine called the ring saw. The other interesting thing is using brackets. I just knew that they use brackets for additional information. As an example like my hen laid 18 eggs (1.5 dozen) and it's helpful because some people like to know more about the sentence but the sentence is fine without the brackets. When did I learn brackets. This week was a lot of testing and my teacher Mr Naidoo always asks us what we were struggling with and it was brackets. He to us how to use it and not only that you can get more points because its using a kind of like a rare punctuation. Now we're talking maths, in maths we were doing this maths that I didn't know how to do it but it was kinda like decimals. I got use to it and now i'm starting to help people. I learned how to us shortcuts and here are some.

  • New window- Ctrl n
  • New tab- Ctrl t
  • Get your previous tab back- Ctrl Shift t
  • Copy your search bar- Ctrl l
  • Copy- Ctrl c
  • Pasted- Ctrl v
  • Zoom in and out- Ctrl -+
  • Reset zoom- Ctrl 0

Facts about Easter

We finally made it to good Friday. I hope yous are having a lovely day. Today you'll find out facts about easter. Did you know that more than 1.5 million Cadbury creme eggs are produced everyday, that's a lot of chocolate. The world’s largest Easter egg weighs in at 5000 lbs, that's really heavy. People ask why is it called good Friday and it's because Today, the calamitous day is celebrated as Good Friday.  "That terrible Friday has been called Good Friday because it led to the Resurrection of Jesus and his victory over death and sin and the celebration of Easter, the very pinnacle of Christian celebrations," the Huffington Post reported. Did you know on the 16th century is when easter egg hunt started and comes from germany. On the 3rd of April at about 3pm is when Jesus dies on the cross to forgive our sins for the wrong we have done and he is released after 3 days (6th of April). For easter there's a lot of activities and here's some, Egg and spoon race, Jelly bean guessing game, Decorate a egg, make chocolate fondue, easter egg hunt and other things you can find on google. I'm so happy that were not on level 4 because if we were we could've been doing nothing and it'll be so boring. I've asked a lot of people for what there doing for easter and the sad thing is that they said nothing. For easter we will be going out and I can't wait because the last time we went out was ages ago (last year). I think a lot of people are going to the Blues and Hurricanes game tomorrow (3rd of April), I hope yous have fun. I hope you have a nice easter holiday Happy easter.

My Favorite sports athlete (Valerie Adams)

Valerie Adams

Valerie Adams is one of my favorite sports athlete. She is my inspiration and I'd love to meet her some days. She has been breaking records and always giving it her best shot.Valerie Adams was born on 6 October, 1984, in Rotorua. She first began competing aged 14, after taking part in a school competition and being seen by Kirsten Hellier, later her coach. Her Tongan mother died from cancer when Valerie was 16. Her father was an Englishman who settled in New Zealand. I love seeing her smiles, they just make my day. She is a four-time World champion, four-time World Indoor champion, two-time Olympic, three-time Commonwealth Games champion and twice IAAF Continental Cup winner, can you believe that. Valerie Adams has won four world championships, four world indoor championships and three Commonwealth Games gold medals in addition to her two Olympic golds and one silver, that's more than I expected.

Things that will be happening on Earth if everything works

As we know coronavirus is still a thing and today marks the day we moved to level 4. So far 2021 has been a nice and normal year and we all hope there wouldn't be a lot of cases and lockdowns. We should be proud because we have looked after ourselves but not just us also the world for following the rules. We should be happy because on October the 1st Walt Disney World is having there 50th anniversary, can you believe that. I'm even happier that they are having the Olympics in Tokyo and will be held on the 23rd of July to the 8 of August 2021. For all the cricket fans out there I hope your looking forward for the T20 cricket world cup that will be held on October. We also need to celebrate the queen's 95th birthday that would be on the 7th of June. The bad things are that 82 indians have been infected with the new COVID-19 that was discovered in Britain over the last two weeks of 2020. For all the Elon Musk fans unfortunately Elon Musk passes it on to Jeff Bezos to be the richest man in the world. Back to our good news, and yes April fools will be on the 1st of April I know, time flies. Finally it's almost easter on the 4th of April, I hope COVID wouldn't spoil it. Matariki is happening in 99 days on June the 24th, time does fly by. Now for the things that already happened but some of us didn't realize. Facebook and Instagram banned Donald Trump for at least two weeks, it must be hard to live without social media. Biden's win was certified by congress meaning that he won the election again, WOW. Near the Capitol, pipe bombs were reportedly found at the RNC headquarters and a suspicious package arrived at the DNC headquarters. I hope you all stay safe and hopefully these fun things would happen. I also hope we find a cuer for COVID-19. GOD bless you

I would dance sequence

Click this to see our amazing dancing skills!

Today we had our first dance lesson with Miss G. First we walked in and sat down, next the dance teacher told us her name. Then she said, "So we are gonna find a partner and make a hand shake with only 4 movements". When she was finished telling us the instructions we stood up and started making our handshake. When we were finished we sat down and Miss G picked to groups to stand up and show us there handshake. The 4 girls went first and showed our 4 movement handshake and the boys were the audience it was fun and then after the boys showed us there 4 movement handshake. After we were dont we had to find another partner and make up a different 4 movement handshake without your hands. You could yous your head, leg, feet, shoulder, knee and other body parts besides your hands. When Miss G said GO we were all running but luckily no one was hurt. My next one was Damani and we made a amazing handshake with the side of out foot and our elbow. Next Miss G told us to show our handshake and remember then we showed the boys our handshake. Then the boys showed us there amazing handshake. When we were finished showing our handshake we had to make another 4 movement handshake. After we did the same thing then we all sat in a circle. We sat in a circle because we were playing a clapping game. The game was to clap then Miss G does another beat clap and we follow her. We had 3 different clap movements we practice 3 times and we had a challenge. Our challenge was to try beat room 10's score. There one was 7 seconds. Mr Naidoo started the time then we all clap really fast. Our score was 5.25 and we were shouting loud that we couldn't stop. After celebrating we sat down in front of Miss G and we had to describe how lockdown was. We came up with a lot of words then we had to make something. First we made shapes for the ingredients second we added the flavour and the flavour was to do a roll, turn, jump and some other things. After doing those we added the method and it was reverse, repeat, locomotor, and other things I forgot. We put them all together and we performed in front of the class. They all were amazing. It was fun and awesome that i wanted to stay.
